About non-Windows computers

Although you install and run Network Magic on Microsoft Windows-based computers, you can include in your network computers that use other operating systems.

While you can include such computers, keep in mind that Network Magic provides a limited amount of information about them.

Apple Macintosh, UNIX, and Linux computers

• Each of these types appears in the network map as a computer that does not run Network Magic. 

• Using Network Magic, you can assign these computers a friendly name and an icon, just like with a device. For information, see Name a device and give it an icon.

Note

Remember, many devices (for example, a network adapter) have MAC addresses. "MAC" does not refer specifically to Apple Macintosh computers, which are known by the "Mac" nickname.
